Guest Speakers’ Talk – My Road to Entrepreneurship (21 February 2019)

The Wu Jieh Yee Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (WUCIE) and the Programme Office of the Master of Science in Entrepreneurial Management (MSC-EM) organized Guest Speakers’ Talk titled “My Road to Entrepreneurship”. During the talk, two distinguished guest speakers had shared their entrepreneurial experiences on starting and managing their businesses.

Topic 1: “The story of a Hong Kong entrepreneur from a faraway country”

Guest Speaker: Mr. (Jerry) Gerardo Salandra

Biography:

Mr. (Jerry) Gerardo Salandra is a young man from Ecuador, Latin America, after graduated with an MBA (major in Entrepreneurship) in HK, decided to become an entrepreneur.  He set up Rocketbots, a company using Artificial Intelligence to develop chatbot to solve corporations’ problems in handling/managing their customers’ hotline.  Jerry will share with us his road in entrepreneurship and how he started his company and managed it through rough times. Jerry is also the founder of the HK Artificial Intelligence Association.

 

Topic 2: “From Zero to IPO and exit again to become an Angel Investor”

Guest Speaker: Professor C. K. Chan

Biography:

Prof. Chan, a former professor of City University, was the chairman and CEO of the Tele-Eye Group, the first university spin-off listed in the HK Stock Exchange (SEHK 8051).  Prof. Chan will share with us his road in entrepreneurship, how he started Tele-Eye in 1994, all the way to listing it in the HKSE in 2001, and eventually sold it to an overseas investor and now becomes an angel investor.

 

Moderator: Mr. Frederick Yung

Mr. Yung is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Management of the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. He was Head of Incubation of the HK Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Honourary Trainer of the HK Business Angel Network.  He also served as the Head Assessor of the HK ICT Awards Startup Categories of the HKSARG in 2017 and 2018.
